DPD Germany strengthens its competitiveness with structural programme

Aschaffenburg, December 7th, 2023: DPD Deutschland GmbH is strengthening its competitiveness by adapting structures and processes. With an in-depth operational transformation plan, developed in conjunction with the company’s labour representatives, DPD will ensure a return to long-term performance and simplify and streamline the operating structures it has developed over the years. DPD has agreed with the worker’s council on a reconciliation of interest and a social plan for streamlining the operations in Germany.

The planned measures address adverse market conditions following the pandemic, inflation-related cost increases and changes in consumer behaviour. The German delivery market has been affected by a downturn in GDP this year. Furthermore, German eCommerce revenue is expected to shrink in 2023 by almost seven percent compared with the year prior to €89.4 billion.

To account for these altered macroeconomic conditions, the transformation of the company includes a series of measures in all areas and at all levels of the organisation. Up to 1400 of the company's current 9600 jobs will be affected by the restructuring. The joint agreement with the labour representatives intends to shape the reduction of staff in socially responsible manner. The transformation is stretched over two years until the end of 2025.

"With this transformation we are making DPD Germany fit and agile for the time to come. We are aware of our responsibility and want to accompany our employees individually into a new future."

Björn Scheel, Chief Executive Officer DPD Germany

“This transformation is a tough decision for everyone at DPD. After lengthy negotiations we have succeeded in finding a viable path for the future of our company and a fair perspective for our colleagues”, said Gabriel Javsan, Head of the DPD worker’s council.

The planned restructuring will enable increased concentration on the company's core, profitable growth in the B2C business and foster DPD’s deliveries to businesses. Alongside the focus on international shipping, optimising the network structure will be a main target. This will enable DPD to pool resources in the long term and offer customers a top level of quality of service. Our teams remain fully committed to supporting our customers with their Peak season’s deliveries.
