DPD delivers every parcel in Hamburg's city using emission-free vehicles. This is why we have joined forces with the cities of Lisbon, Paris and Madrid in a pilot project using next generation sensors, our delivery vehicles and our depots measure air pollution by particular matter (PM2.5) in real time. The comprehensive data has enabled the authorities in Lisbon to create a low-emission zone in the heart of the city. Building on this success, Geopost plans to extend the initiative to 20 focus cities across Europe by 2021. Hamburg is one of them. In our opinion this is a great example of how responsible local action can contribute to the well-being of cities and their residents.
DPD measures air quality and makes measurement data public
The "Breathe" project has been launched in Germany: for the first time residents of Hamburg can access the data on air quality outside their front door and also at any other location in the city. Laser-based sensors at 19 branches of the drugstore chain Budnikowsky, which is our strategic partner, on 100 vehicles of the delivery fleet as well as at DPD's Hamburg depot provide the data in real time. The big advantage: the data is public and can be accessed by anyone.
